In his 4th of July address from West Virginia University, Bush has give the exit straegy for Iraq. As I have said in other threads we need to finsih the job we started there in Iraq. I don't care if you are FER or AGIN the war. We have a job to finish.

Bush anounces:

"As Iraqis stand up WE will stand down"

Sounds like a good exit stratgey to me.

Happy 4th of July!

Would you rather he lie to you and tell you that we will be out in six months or how about nine. Look at the message. As the Iraqis stand up we will stand down. We will leave as they take over. Building a new nation takes time just as building anything worth surviving the test of time does. You may not agree with the reason we are over there, but it would be a far more horrible thing to leave now. Stop being so negative and at least acknowledge the possibility of hope.

That's all well and good, but according to king rummy, US troops may be fighting the isurgency for as long as twelve, yes, 12 years. Is that acceptable to you? Is that acceptable that the US pays $100 billion a year for 12 years? For upwards of 800-1000 soldiers die each of the twelve years? That 16-20,000 Iraqis die for up to twelve years? In fact, if the US doesn't develop some other strategey than "staying the course", that's what the next 12 years could look like.

I'm all for the US figuring out how to resolve this mess. But, staying the course is a stupid dumbass idea. It speaks to the mindlessness of refusing to admit any mistakes, when we all know that mistakes were made, big time. I'm getting the sense that all the Iraqis want is for us to just leave. Then the bombings will stop. I'm not sure that it won't mean a civil war, which our foolishness has led to. But, a civil war is brewing while we are there, anyway, and there may be no way to head it off. Too many factions fighting for control, none of which want any US control.

We meddled in a country where we didn't belong; where the people have no clue about our western style democracy. You can't just say, "Here, have some democracy", like it's some kind of piece of grandma's apple pie. Democracy has to be learned first. And, we never bothered to teach them. We fucked up royally. And there is likely no way out but to just pack up and leave. Not to say that we shouldn't be paying reparations for years to come. We should. We broke it.

I hate this fucking war. I hate this fucking administration. Regardless of why they entered Iraq, be it oil, money, or even some sense of altuism (which I doubt), they still fucked up by going there. Stay the course, my ass.

Yes stay the course. I know you would rather we pull out now. But put some thought in it. If we pull out now what kind of mess will we leave the world in? You want to see Iraq as a glass parking lot? If it takes 12 years that's what it takes. You are one of the first to complain about US dead. And that is understandable. But would you see their ultimate sacrfice made meaningless? That is what pulling out now would do.

And this is just your opinion. I have talked to returning family members and they have "all" said your wrong on every count! And as far as your figures go.....your just guessing. You have no solid evidence to back up your financial or body counts.

Thanks for once again proving to me how stupid people can be.

We fucked up royally

Watch your language. There is no need to make yourself sound like a blathering idiot.

Now to ultimately rebut your point. The solution to any problem is TIME and MONEY. That might not make you happy, but it's the truth. Any problem can be solved with time and money. We do it everyday with medication. I don't see you crying that the drug companies take 12 years to approve a medication. It is the same theory. If it takes 12 years to provide them with a stable government then so be it. If we have to teach them about democracy, don't you think that's better than saying hey make a democratic government. This country made a lot of mistakes on the way to where we are now. It would be wrong not to share that wisdom. (I said share not cram it down their throats)

Planning an exit strategy for Iraq at this point is just dumb. You can make a plan and change it over and over or you can set goals and as you achieve them cross them off the list.

I want our troops home right now but not at the cost of wasted American and Iraqi lives. So you completely understand that last statement, it would be a waste of life to stop what we started. As the Iraqis stand up we will stand down. It isn't a timeline but it isn't a lie.

I find it interesting that liberals complain about the time and money spent on Iraq, but every solution they offer is about using more money and taking more time.

I don't find that even the slightest bit interesting, but I am a realist. I choose not to complain about what is fact. There is no clear set of objectives yet. I'm not saying that we don't already have goals but every big goal is set with milestones. It isn't the end result that we have to work out but all of the details. Until that water isn't so murky there is no possibility of setting a clear timetable. I want to see a free and strong Iraq. I believe what the president says "Freedom is contagious". I also know that "Freedom isn't free".
