January 17, 2006...“We ask black people ... It's time for us to come together. It's time for us to rebuild a New Orleans — the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans, and I don’t care what people are saying Uptown or wherever they are, this city will be chocolate at the end of the day. This city will be a majority African American city. It's the way God wants it to be. You can't have New Orleans no other way. It wouldn't be New Orleans." Mayor Ray Nagin, January 16, 2006

I know Nagin has said some real mind blowing things since Katrina hit. To openly announce that it was his goal to repopulate the city with an African American majority, well that's just asinine. I'm just too disgusted at the moment to offer more commentary.

more later..."

Au contraire, mon ami... to my utter shock, bemusement, and delight, CNN has crucified Nagin over this one. Anderson Cooper 360 was a hoot!

This makes me happy and sad all at the same time. I am sad that once again Louisiana is made to look like the butt crack of the US and happy to see that all of the MSM has picked up on what a moron this guy really is.

Acadian/Creole from Halifax, Nova Scotia

My brother. I am a Sonnier. I am proud of my Acadian herritage. It's just too bad Mr. Nagin has forgotten where he came from. After all, I think he could really be classified as a resident of Dallas now.

How is that divisive?

On Monday, Nagin said God wanted New Orleans to be predominantly black and said he didn't care what the predominantly white Uptown section of the city had to say about it. from the same linked article

It is divisive because he is so clearly a racist. Lets face it, the African American population of New Orleans would be far better off without him at the helm.

He is only sorry about any damage he is doing to his career.

One more comment and a comical one.

Nagin has been dubbed the "Mayor of the Chocolate City". He has been referenced as "Willy Nagin and the Chocolate Factory". How bout an interesting piece of trivia. He and Gene Wilder share the same birthday June 11th. Ironic?

Damn!  You ruined my next humor article!  A guy came over to me this morning and was talking about Willy Wonka, and how the Wonkatania must have sprung a leak!

Guess a lot of people got the idea at the same time!  I thought my co-worker had a new twist on it!

Yeah, I am thinking of giving up the whole IT thing to follow Nagin around just to print T-Shirts. I could make a mint in just a couple of weeks from this bafoon.

New Orleans, and its mayor, might be a better off if it was a little LESS chocolate, if you catch my drift.

Contrary to what comes out of his mouth, this is exactly what Nagin wants. He did not pull a majority of the African American vote in the 2001 election. Yes it was the white folks who put him in office. He can say one thing and do another. I don't expect to see the folks of the lower ninth ward returning in droves. Nagin is intent on making that difficult, simply by being indecisive.
